There’s bowling and arcade games at Cherry Lanes Arcade, Packer Games at Poh’s Corner Pub or Husby’s, and local Trivia nights everywhere. There is even free skiing at Crossroads at Big Creek. Christmas Tree lighting, the Fire and Ice Festival, meeting friends at Brew, and chili. Did we say chili? Also, there’s chili.

Top 12 Winterizing Tips for Door County
You wouldn’t leave your dog for a week while you’re on vacation without a sitter, so why would you leave your biggest asset unprotected? If you’re not planning on having a house sitter or hiring your favorite handyman to regularly check in on your vacation home, then here are some tips.
- Insulate exterior water lines and water heater. Protect your interior pipes. If you’re leaving for the winter, also shut off the water and water heater.
Simply Sewer Denver also suggests using antifreeze in your toilets and emptying your septic tank. If you don’t want to bother with that, then allow your faucets to drip and keep the cabinet doors open and set your thermostat to at least 65ºF.

- If you have an automatic sprinkler system, shut it off. Also ensure any exterior faucets are insulated and protected.
- Shut down electric and natural gas if you’re leaving for the winter. Ensure the utility company has your updated contact information. If you’re using SimpliSafe or Ring alarm systems to monitor your property, however, keep your electricity and WiFi on.
- Replace batteries in smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.
- Have your chimney and furnace inspected and replace your furnace filter.

- Clean your roof gutters. You don’t want debris to freeze and clog your roof.
- Trim tree branches near your roofline. The last thing you need is a heavy, snow-laden branch falling on your house.
- Cover exterior furniture or bring it inside. Plastic will freeze and crack. Exterior kitchens and grills also need to be brought inside or covered if they’re permanent fixtures.
- Drain your hot tub and ensure that the cover is watertight.
- Turn off the gas to any exterior fire pits. Bring propane tanks inside.
- Seal gaps in your attic and basement. Reseal windows and doors.
- Lastly, forward your mail with the USPS.
